Happily ever after stories do not all begin the same way. That much is defnitely true for Desiree White and her now-husband, Bryant.
Bryant and Desiree had been friends since high school, and he was best friends with her longtime boyfriend, too. They were all so close that Bryant was the best man at their wedding.
But just after Desiree and her husband tied the knot, Bryant had something to say. During his best man speech, he drunkenly revealed that he was deeply in love with Desiree. She thought it was just because he'd had too much to drink, but it turned out to be very true.
While Bryant completely shocked everyone with his speech, his words were pretty beautiful. “He said, ‘I remember the first moment I saw Desiree, I loved her. I fell in love with her. I knew she had to be mine. I thought she was the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen in my life,’” Desiree recounted to Kennedy News and Media.
“He said, ‘She’s the best person I’ve ever met. I’ve never met anyone like her. Then I found out she already had a boyfriend and I thought I needed to find out a way to get her, but then I met [Desiree’s ex-husband] and we became friends,’” she recalled.
Desiree tried to sweep the comments under the rug. But she also remembered the way her longtime friend had looked at her in her wedding dress. It was a look she never remembers him giving her before. It definitely stuck with her.
Soon after the wedding, Desiree's marriage started to crumble. She says her husband adopted a totally different lifestyle that was destructive to their marriage. After they divorced, she fell into a deep depression, but Bryant was there for her. He got her through her worst days, always offering to eat dinner with her or be there in whatever way he could.
One day, they kissed, and it completely changed everything. “It was out of nowhere. When he kissed me, I didn’t stop it, then I kissed him back,” she said. “I was shocked that it was a good kiss. It felt good and natural.”
That kiss led to the two falling deeply in love. Soon, Desiree became pregnant, and they decided to get married. “[Bryant] said, ‘I always wanted to marry you and this isn’t because of the baby, but let’s start this family right,’ ” Desiree shared. “We were always friends but when we were together [romantically], it was like nothing was hard to do anymore knowing we had each other.”
While their story definitely didn't start in the traditional way, they are totally living that life now! Desiree and Bryant have four kids, and she says they couldn't be happier with the way their lives turned out.
