Chris Stapleton had a huge night at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday. He took home three Grammys, including the coveted award for best country album. But for Chris, it wasn't a night just about celebrating. It was also about sacrifice.
The 43-year-old opened up about that sacrifice in a moving speech that just about every musician with a family could relate to. Chris revealed that he and his wife, Morgane, were missing their sons Macon and Samuel's fourth birthday to be at the ceremony.
Clearly, it wasn't easy.
When accepting his first award at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Chris was clearly emotional. "Today is my twins' birthday — they're 4 years old," he said. "So I'm thinking a lot about sacrifice because I missed out on some of their birthday today."
His words were so heartfelt, especially in a room full of musicians. "Everybody in this room has made some kind of a sacrifice to be up here doing this," he continued. "And I don't know what it is for everybody, but I know that it hurts sometimes."
Sacrifice is part of the job. Chris certainly understands that. But he also said that he understands the greater purpose of it all.
"But hopefully we're all doing it so we can make the world a better place, and the people that live in it will love each other and have a good time together and come together," he said.
The sentiment was really beautiful and important. It's no wonder it had many fellow musicians and fans choked up.
Chris also gave a moving performance at the event, wowing the crowd with his song, "Cold."
While Chris opened up about missing his twin boys' birthday, he and his wife have three other children. The youngest was born in 2019.
