Lori Vallow’s Murder Trial Will Proceed After Judge Rules Her Competency Has Been Restored

Lori Vallow has been restored to competency, 10 months after her trial was put on hold.

District Judge Steven Boyce issued a written order on April 11 confirming that Vallow — who is charged with the murder of two of her children, 16-year-old Tylee Ryan and 7-year-old JJ Vallow — is now competent to stand trial. She was ordered to be released from a Department of Health and Welfare facility where she has been undergoing treatment since last summer.

Vallow will be arraigned on April 19, 2022, in Fremont County, Idaho. She will have to appear at the arraignment, marking the first time she will be seen publicly since May 2021.

Just three weeks ago, a judge denied a request to have Lori Vallow and husband Chad Daybell's trials severed. Their cases are set to be tried together in Ada County in January 2023. A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 19, about whether the trial will proceed in Fremont County or Ada County.

Daybell is also facing charges in the death of his wife, Tammy Daybell. Chad Daybell married Vallow on November 5, 2019, just weeks after the deaths of Tylee, JJ, and Tammy.

Vallow also faces additional legal proceedings in Arizona over the death of ex-husband Charles Vallow. She was indicted on first-degree murder charges by a Maricopa County grand jury in July 2021.
