Juvenile Arrested In Death Of 10-Year-Old Chippewa Falls Girl Lily Peters

Just a day after 10-year-old Lily Peters' body was found near Chippewa Falls, an arrest has been made. That arrest is another child.

A juvenile has been arrested in connection the 10-year-old's death. Police revealed the twist in the case during a press conference on Tuesday.

"Earlier this evening we arrested a juvenile suspect in this case," Chief Matthew Kelm said. "The suspect was not a stranger. The suspect was known to the victim. We do not believe there is any danger to the community at this time."

"While nothing will bring Lily Peters back or change what happened, we are very grateful to be able to deliver this news for the family and for the community," he continued. "The Wisconsin Department of Justice Crime Lab processed the crime scene last night. At that time the body of Lily Peters was removed by the coroner's office, and a forensic autopsy is being conducted."

A search warrant was issued for a home near where the young girl's body was discovered. Evidence was collected from the home. Interviews were also conducted, Kelm said.

Lily disappeared just a day before her body was found. She had reportedly been visiting her aunt's home, which is not far from her own home. On Sunday evening, she went to ride her bike but never returned.

The child's bike was found later that evening in the woods near a walking trail that separated Lily's home from her aunt's home. Her body was found on Monday morning. Police said they believed her death to be a homicide.
