Anyone who has experienced any kind of health scare with their child knows how terrifying and emotional that can be.
On Mother's Day, Christina Hall revealed she had just experienced such a situation with her 6-year-old son, Brayden El Moussa, whom she shares with ex-husband Tarek El Moussa. The mom of three took to Instagram to reveal that Brayden had to have an emergency surgery after a fast-escalating medical situation.
"Scary 12 hours for us parents + step parents. After being admitted to the ER, Brayden had to have an emergency appendectomy as well as removal of Meckel's diverticulum early this morning," Christina revealed in her post.
"Nothing like seeing your child in excruciating pain ," the mom of three continued.
"Luckily the surgery went well and he is recovering and in good spirits."
Christina expressed her gratitude for everyone involved in helping Brayden heal.
"The entire staff at Mission Hospital was amazing and we are all grateful it was caught early," she concluded.
"Blessed to have 3 healthy + happy kids, caring family and friends and a husband who stands by my side. Happy Mother's Day everyone. ."
Tarek also posted about the incident, sharing the story with fans.
"It's been an interesting 24 hours. Last night we were at the CHOC Gala and this morning we were at CHOC hospital waiting for Brayden to get out of surgery. He was extremely sick last night so Christina took him to the emergency room," he wrote.
"It turns out it was the right call because he had to have his appendix removed and also we found out he has something rare called Meckel's diverticulum. Both issues were surgically removed and he's recovering overnight with his mom," Tarek, who also shares 11-year-old Taylor with Christina, continued.
"He's such a strong boy and of course he told me he's very excited to eat real food tomorrow, he's obsessed with food just like his daddy❤️ very scary day, but we all banned together as a family to get through it. Thank you to the amazing Doctors and nurses who took such incredible care of our boy."
Tarek's wife, Heather Rae Young, also posted about the incident.
"Today @therealtarekelmoussa and I were woken up to a call that as a parent & step parent you never want to wake up to. Christina & Josh rushed Bray to the hospital very early this AM. Bray had to have an emergency appendectomy surgery & removal of his Meckles Diverticulum," she wrote.
"Scariest day of our life but we are so thankful it was caught early. The doctors and nurses at Mission Hospital were incredible & took the best care of him. Times like these we ban together as a family. It's been a very emotional day but he is doing well and recovering. ❤️."
Christina's husband, Josh, spoke about his expectations about the day versus what happened, while honoring Brayden's privacy.
"On this Mother's Day, I was supposed to be with Christina, my mom, mother in law, sister in law, their cousin, their respective husbands and a pile of kids on a boat giving the ladies their day. Well … life throws curveballs at us all and it's how you handle it, that will define who you are as a person and in this case, a mother," he wrote.
"I spend a lot of my sharing speaking about how amazing I think Christina is and today was just the cherry on top. Currently, I'm at home taking care of the kids along with some family help while Christina remains at the hospital with one of the little ones."
"One of the kids was in some discomfort last night. Christina was tending care all night doing all she could to make them feel better and after no improvement, she made the decision to go to the hospital. And her motherly instinct was spot on and after an emergency procedure, I'm happy to say, recovery is now in process," he continued.
"Christina never slowed, showed any sign of weakness and remained focused the whole time. She is currently without sleep for the last 33+ hours. She will rest again soon, but not until her job as a mom is complete. So we will always remember this Mother’s Day and I will always remember why God made Christina a mother, because she was made for it. Happy Mother's Day to this woman, my mother and all the moms out there today.❤️."
It's unclear what symptoms led Christina and Josh to bring Brayden to get checked out. Appendectomy is the removal of the appendix when it is infected. Meckel's diverticulum removal is the removal of a small pouch in the wall of the intestine, near the junction of the small and large intestines, that is a remnant of tissue from the prenatal development of the digestive system.
This latest curveball from life comes at a difficult time for Christina, who has recently had custody struggles with ex-husband Ant Anstead, with whom she shares 2-year-old Hudson. In a petition asking for emergency full custody that was ultimately dismissed, Ant trashed Christina's parenting. She has maintained that she loves her kids, cares for them, and has only their best interest at heart.
