Stories about the school shooting in Uvdale, Texas, are continuing to be released, and each is more harrowing than the last. Eleven-year-old survivor Miah Cerrillo recently spoke to CNN about how she made it through the horrific event, detailing the use of the blood of her dead and dying classmates to get through.
Miah told CNN she and her classmates were watching Lilo and Stitch when the shooting began.
Miah was a student in Irma Garcia and Eva Mireles' classroom. When her teachers realized there was a shooter in the building, one of them went to the door to lock it. The gunman was outside the door and fired through its glass window.
Miah shared that her teacher stepped back into the classroom and was followed by the gunman, who made eye contact with her other teacher, said, "Good night," and shot her. He then began to shoot Miah's classmates, sending fragments flying around her.
From there, he entered the connecting classroom and shot students there. Miah said that he then played sad music — music she described as the type where "you want people to die."
Miah and a classmate found their teacher's phone and called 911. Miah then used the blood of her classmates to disguise herself, rubbing it on her limbs and playing dead. She told the publication that she believed help had not arrived at that point.
Eventually, Miah was rescued. Her parents have started a GoFundMe page to pay for therapy to address her extensive trauma, and Miah is too scared to speak publicly about the ordeal.
