Michigan Mother Charged After Her Toddler’s Decomposing Body Is Found In Basement Freezer

A Michigan mother has been charged with her child's death after the toddler's dead body was found in the freezer.

On Friday, police discovered the 3-year-old's body when they visited the home for a wellness check. According to a neighbor, the little boy was blind.

Now 31-year-old Azuradee France is charged with first-degree child abuse, torture, and concealing a death, which are all felonies. According to CNN, the suspect pleaded not guilty at her arraignment on Sunday.

At a news conference on Friday, Detroit Police Chief James White said the officers found the child's body decomposing in a freezer but they were unsure how long it had been there. The medical examiner determined the death to be a homicide.

"The alleged facts in this case have astounded even the seriously jaded," prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement.

The freezer where the body was found was reportedly in the basement of the home. Five other children were inside the home at the time that the child was found. They were checked at a local hospital and are in the custody of child protective services.
