Misty Copeland is a mom!
The ballerina and icon just revealed in an interview with People that she quietly welcomed a baby months ago.
Misty and her husband, Olu Evans, who have been married since 2016, are now the parents of a son named Jackson, she shared. "I'm on maternity leave right now," Misty shared with the outlet. "I have a 3-month-old."
While Misty is now a mom and will be balancing parenting her little one, she plans to keep dancing. "But I will be back on the stage in 2023, hopefully, in the fall," she said.
Misty is an absolute icon in the ballet world. But she's also known for breaking down barriers for ballerinas of color. The 39-year-old is a dancer with American Ballet Theatre. In 2015, Misty became the first African American woman ever to be promoted to principal dancer.
As an incredibly talented and famous woman, Misty seems to have strong feelings about keeping her son out of the public eye. In addition to her quiet pregnancy and birth, she told People she will absolutely shield him from the public.
"I wouldn't have him probably be on camera for anything," she said.
Misty is certainly very ambitious and will be back on the stage, but right now, she's focused on having some relaxing time with her family. "We just got Jackson's passport a couple days ago," she said. "So we're on our way to Corsica this summer in France."
