Pregnant Mandy Moore Says She’s Planning An Unmedicated Birth Due To A Health Condition

Mandy Moore is pregnant with her second baby! The actress, who is due in the fall, just opened up about what she's planning for the baby's birth. Mandy said that due to an autoimmune disorder, she's planning an unmedicated delivery
.
Mandy has immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP).

In an interview with Today Parents, the 38-year-old shared how that condition impacts labor and delivery. "My platelets are too low for an epidural," she said, recalling her first delivery.

"It was awful. But I can do it one more time. I can climb that mountain again."

Mandy and her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, welcomed their first baby 17 months ago. Due to the condition, she delivered baby Gus without medication, as well.

"I wish medication was an option — just the idea of it being on the table is so nice," she shared. "But we'll just push forth like we did last time."

While a lot of celebrities these days reveal their plans for unmedicated births, Mandy's definitely isn't by choice. She'd much prefer to have some pain relief to help her through. Still, she's done it once before, and she knows she can do it again.

"I am fine," she told Today Parents about how her pregnancy is progressing. "I just have to continue to get my blood checked — my platelet levels checked — throughout pregnancy."

The actress continued, "They're low, but they've always been low. But I'm all good. Everything's good."

For Mandy, the pregnancy has meant some big changes, though. She ended her tour early, which she opened up about earlier in the month.

"As it turns out, being on a set is worlds away from being on a tour bus. It was like trying to sleep on a wooden roller coaster," she said. "Gus would be standing up in his Pack N' Play while the bus was shaking — and I was like, 'No, no, no. We can't do this anymore.'"

She continued, saying that this pregnancy has been more challenging than her first for a few reasons. "I foolishly thought 'if I did it before, I can do it again,'" she shared. "But every pregnancy is different. This time, I was caring for a toddler. I was walking around feeling like an absolute shell of myself."

It definitely wasn't an easy decision for Mandy to leave the tour, though. Especially because she'd been looking forward to it for 15 years.

"I know that I have to put my family and my health (and the health of my baby) first and the best place for me to be right now is at home," she wrote on Instagram. "Thank you for all of your support along the way and thank you in advance for respecting my decision."
