Vanessa Bryant and Chris Chester have won their lawsuit against the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Fire Department. The pair were awarded a combined $31 million after a jury found that the departments shared photos of the bodies of Bryant's and Chester's family members who died in January 2020.
The jury's decision also came on Kobe Bryant Day, or Mamba Day, which Vanessa noted in a post on Instagram.
Lawyers for Bryant and Chester did not comment on the ruling, but Mira Hashmall, lawyer for the defense, spoke out. She said, "While we disagree with the jury's findings as to the county's liability, we believe the monetary award shows that jurors didn't believe the evidence supported the plaintiffs' requests for $75 million for emotional distress."
She continued, "We will be discussing next steps with our client. Meanwhile, we hope the Bryant and Chester families continue to heal from their tragic loss."
Bryant posted on Instagram in reference to the verdict.
Bryant shared a photo of herself with husband Kobe and daughter Gianna and wrote, "All for you! I love you! JUSTICE for Kobe and Gigi! #Betonyourself #MambaDay 82422 #MambaMentality."
