In a potentially devastating update in the case of Eliza Fletcher, a body has been found.
Memphis officials are working to identity the body, which was discovered amid the search for the mom and teacher who was abducted while jogging last week.
The body was located about 7.5 miles from the site where the 34-year-old was forced into an SUV.
Police posted on Twitter about the discovery of the body. In a post, they revealed that the identity of the body and cause of death have not been confirmed. They also noted that an investigation is underway.
Fletcher was taken around 4:20 a.m. on Friday while jogging near the University of Memphis. Surveillance footage captured the victim being forcefully shoved into a black SUV. After Fletcher was in the car, it reportedly remained in a parking lot for about four minutes.
One man has already been arrested and charged. Cleotha Abston, who has a history of kidnapping, has been charged with aggravated kidnapping and tampering with evidence. The 38-year-old is being held in the Shelby County Jail on $500,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
Police say they have DNA evidence linking Abston to the abduction site. They also spoke with witnesses, including the accused's brother, who said they encountered him after the kidnapping. They said he washed the inside of his SUV and his clothing.
