Ryan Grantham Of ‘Riverdale’ Given Life In Prison For Killing Mom While She Played Piano

Actor Ryan Grantham was just sentenced to life in prison. The 24-year-old actor, who was best known for his roles in Riverdale and Diary of a Wimpy Kid, pleaded guilty to shooting and killing his mother.

The crime took place in March 2020, when Grantham shot his mother, Barbara Waite, as she was sitting down, playing the piano.

The actor appeared in the British Columbia Supreme Court in Vancouver on Wednesday. According to Canada's CBC, it will be 14 years before he is eligible for parole.

Grantham's attorney Chris Johnson spoke to E! News about what's happened in recent years. "Since Ryan was arrested, he's worked really hard to turn his life around. He's received a lot of psychological assistance and he has struggled with what he's done and facing that. But he hopes to be able to dedicate the rest of his life to making amends."

Johnson also told CTV News that the sentencing was not a surprise. "I think he anticipated what the judge gave him as a sentence," Johnson said. "I think he's pretty apprehensive about the whole thing. He's a fairly tiny person, and to go to the prison system, I'm sure it's a daunting and scary thought for him."

The actor had allegedly been planning other murders, too. Grantham allegedly planned to kill Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and even had his car loaded with guns, ammo, camping supplies, and more. He had a map with directions to Rideau Cottage, where Trudeau lived with his family, according to the CBC.

Instead, Grantham turned himself in.
