A Florida teen with dreams of a career in law enforcement has found himself on the wrong side of the law. Greg Ramos once belonged to a police youth group. He dreamed of being a homicide detective. Now he's in prison for murder.
The incident occurred in November 2018. Ramos was just 15 years old when he came home with a D on his report card. A fight between him and his mom, Gail Cleavenger, ensued. Things eventually cooled off enough for Gail to go to sleep. It was then that Ramos decided to kill her.
Around midnight, Ramos snuck into his sleeping mother's bedroom. He strangled her until it was clear she was no longer alive. He then took a wheelbarrow and loaded her body into it so he could hide it. He loaded her body into a van and buried it under a fire pit at a local church.
Ramos later tried to stage a break-in and called authorities. He said his mom was missing and that the side door of his house looked as though there had been an intruder.
"I checked the entire house because I was looking for her but she's not here," he tells police in bodycam footage obtained by Inside Edition.
"I just got home and my house is completely trashed," he told police. "It looks like someone broke in the side door."
Ramos wouldn't come clean until police later interrogated him. He broke down and confessed to the crime he later pleaded guilty to.
"He's extremely remorseful and he regrets his actions every day," his lawyer told Inside Edition.
Ramos was sentenced to 45 years in prison. He'll be eligible for parole after 25 years. "In 33 years of policing, he's one of the top three sociopaths that I have ever come in contact with," Sheriff Mike Chitwood declared.
