Sometimes you just can’t fight fate, even if it’s an 8-year-old little boy who gets the ball rolling.
In this story from Wonderbot, 8-year-old Jack met a little girl in his neighborhood whose father had left her. He took her home with him and begged his parents to adopt her, only for Jack’s mother to discover the startling truth about her son’s new friend.
“Hey! Do you want to play with me?” Jack said as he approached a lone girl at his local playground.
The little girl told Jack she wanted to play, but she felt too tired and hungry. Jack suggested that she go home and get something to eat and rest, but she told him that she was waiting for her dad to pick her up and she didn’t quite know where she was.
The little girl then revealed that she had been waiting for her dad for two whole days. Jack was then able to learn that the little girl’s name was Linda.
Jack immediately knew that something was wrong and that he needed to bring Linda home to his mother to get her fed and call for help.
When the two arrived at Jack’s house, his mother, Georgina, cooked them something to eat and let them rest and hang out together. Jack had such a great time spending time with Linda that evening that he asked his mother if they could adopt Linda and make her a part of the family.
When Jack's parents called the police and social services, it turned out that Linda came from an abusive home. In the end, Jack got his wish when Georgina and her family formally adopted her.
