A New Type Of Plant-Eating Dinosaur Is Discovered In Chile

Does your kid happen to love dinosaurs? Well, they'll be excited to know that a brand-new dinosaur has just been discovered. But the name doesn't roll off the tongue quite as well as T. rex.

It's called the Arackar licanantay, and its bones were discovered in a dry desert in Chile. According to paleontologists, Chile has proven itself to be a great geographical point for dinosaur bones to be discovered.

The Arackar licanantay is a large herbivore, with its name meaning "Atacama bones" in the Kunza language. Back when the dinosaur lived, approximately 66 to 80 million years ago, the area wasn't as barren as it is today. These days, the herbivore wouldn't have been able to thrive with the severe lack of vegetation in the desert it is now.

While the bones found were massive, researchers believe that they actually found the remains of a younger dinosaur. Eventually, the parts that were found will be displayed in Chile's Museum of Natural History, per Gadgets360.
