I Shaved My Face For The First Time But Was Worried The Hair Would Grow Back Thicker

As a woman in my later 30s, I've been really into skin care. My skin has been pretty challenging the past few years, likely due to stress and shifting hormones. That means I spend a lot of time trying new products, and of course, my social media ads know this.

I was a little surprised when recently I started seeing targeted ads for something else. Face razors for women.

Yup. You read that right. While I used to bleach my mustache hairs with my mom and sister many years ago as a high schooler, I have long neglected worrying about the hairs on my face. Truly, I thought women either bleached, waxed, or left them alone. It never occurred to me that shaving my face was really an option.

I always believed the old adage that if you shave hair, it grows back thicker and darker. Apparently, that isn't true. At least, according to all of the new-fangled razor brands for women.

I started watching some of the ads. Videos showed women's skin being transformed. When I looked into the trend further, I realized that it wasn't just about sloughing off peach fuzz. It was about exfoliating, too.

Because I've had a rough few years with my skin, exfoliating has become a priority. But I still have acne scars along my jawline from hormone breakouts. According to the ads, face shaving could also help with dulling the scars.

Of course, the more I clicked, the more ads I saw. Many were subscriptions, though, and I wasn't sure I was quite sold on shaving my face. I talked to a friend who said she picked up a three-pack of something similar at Target. I ventured out and found exactly what she was talking about. With that, I came home to shave my face!

Now, let me just say this. I had totally been forewarned that I should be careful. But the razor looked so totally gentle. I didn't worry too much about nicking myself with it. But I definitely did. Within minutes I had a couple of tiny blood spots on my cheeks.

I slowed down and tried to be more careful. I moved the razor in the same direction that my hair grows and pulled my skin in the opposite direction. After splashing some cool water on my face and patting it dry, I couldn't believe how glistening my skin was.

I started shaving my face about once a week. While having a hairless face was nice, especially because it made makeup go on a lot smoother, I was more interested in the impact it would have on my skin. Lately, I've been starting to see some results.

Not only is my face smooth, but my skin tone appears to be more even. That's likely because I'm sloughing off a lot of dead skin every time I shave. It's likely a much better fix than simply exfoliating.

I still feel a little funny about shaving my face, but I have to say, I totally recommend it. My skin looks brighter (and it's still the dead of winter), and overall, I feel a little more confident. It's a win-win.

Still, now that I've been shaving my face for about a solid month, it's just a part of my routine. It makes me feel a little more beautiful. Who cares about the stigma when your face is as smooth as a baby's butt!
