Iconic Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress Sarah Michelle Gellar is back in the movie and TV industry. The star, who took a break from acting to focus on her family life, is starring in the new series Wolf Pack.
The veteran actress is hoping to lead the way for a new generation of actors, including her own daughter.
Sarah Michelle, who also has a role in Netflix’s Do Revenge, said she was inspired to get back on the big screen by her daughter, who aspires to follow in her footsteps.
The former child star told The Hollywood Reporter that 13-year-old Charlotte recently expressed interest in pursuing an acting career.
Sarah Michelle said she has some rules in place before her daughter can get in front of a camera.
"I'll never stop [my daughter] from being on a set," she told the outlet. "But she's just not going on camera while she's living under our roof."
"There'll be different expectations for her, so she needs to learn everything there is first," the actress added.
Sarah Michelle might be referencing the fact that children of established actors are often expected to show a certain amount of talent. It also may be for the best that she wants her daughter to learn everything she can, with recent criticisms coming down hard on Hollywood’s vast presence of what Vulture calls “nepotism babies.”
Sarah Michelle’s daughter has not only one but two famous acting parents. Sarah Michelle married her costar Freddie Prinze Jr. in 2002 after they met while working on I Know What You Did Last Summer.
The star couple took a break from Hollywood for a few years to raise kids Charlotte and Rocky, 10.
The couple are known for prioritizing their children’s privacy and rarely post photos of them online. The kids are also not currently allowed to have social media profiles and don't often accompany their parents to industry events.
Sarah Michelle also said that she wants to protect her daughter, as well as her young costars on Wolf Pack, from “industry abuses” she experienced as a young Hollywood actress.
"I hope that I've set up a safety net for these actors that I didn't have," she said.
