Student Hears Cries Coming From Garbage, Sees Baby Covered In Fire Ants And Takes Charge

Have you ever paused to ask yourself if you would stop to do the right thing if you happened to stumble upon something incredibly unexpected and upsetting?

In 2017, Jimmy Amisial, a 22-year-old Texas State University student, was visiting his home country of Haiti when he experienced something that would change his life forever.

Jimmy was staying with nearby family during the holiday season when he decided to take some gifts that he had brought from America to a local orphanage. While he was on his way there, he came across a commotion on the street. Jimmy went up to see what everyone was looking at, not expecting his entire life to change that day.

Inside a garbage can was a small crying baby completely covered in fire ants.

“He had no clothes on. He was crying. I could hear the pain in his voice,” Jimmy told NBC affiliate KXAN.

Jimmy couldn’t think about anything other than saving this poor baby from isolation and pain. He picked him up and decided to take him home to his mom, where they could bathe and feed him. They dressed him in clean clothes before taking him to the doctor for a checkup.

Next, Jimmy went to the police station to report that he had found an abandoned child. The police launched an investigation, but they could never find his parents.

A few days later, when Jimmy was in court dealing with the aftermath of rescuing a baby, the judge ended up asking him if he was interested in becoming the child’s legal guardian.
