King Charles’ royal coronation is set to take place on May 6. According to Vanity Fair, he still has many thoughts on son Harry’s split from the royal family.
Sources say he desires that his son attend his coronation, and that royal titles for Harry's children, Archie and Lilibet, be “earned.”
Charles is set on accommodating the Sussexes and is reportedly working toward a way to have them attend the ceremony in a “low profile” manner. Vanity Fair received a briefing from Kensington Palace, and in it, sources confirmed that Charles wants his youngest son there on the most important occasion of his life.
There is also a claim that Charles wants to repair the frayed relationship between him and his younger son.
William, apparently, is not having any of it and does not like the idea of reconciliation at all.
Although official invitations for the ceremony at Westminster Abbey have not been sent out, sources say Harry and Meghan will likely be receiving one.
“It is the right thing to do and will hopefully pave the way for peace … . Charles is a forgiving person by nature, and he wants to move on,” another source said, according to Vanity Fair. “Whatever has been said and done, Harry is still his son and he loves him. He also cannot imagine being crowned, the most important moment of his life, without both his sons witnessing the moment.”
In the article, the topic on Archie's and Lilibet’s royal titles came up. Archie, whose fourth birthday falls on the day of the coronation, and his younger sister, Lilibet, are technically entitled to use the titles of “Prince” and “Princess” because Harry is the son of a monarch. However, these titles have not officially been bestowed on them.
“The matter of titles is still up in the air,” says a source. “The feeling is that the titles need to be earned. The royals need to know that they can trust Harry and Meghan not to keep damaging the reputation of the family.”
The "damage," of course, is the fact that Harry and Meghan have spoken out about the treatment they received while living as senior members of the royal family.
In Harry's tell-all memoir, Spare, he singles out actions from several family members, including his brother. Harry accused William of physically attacking him. He also called Camilla, Queen Consort, “dangerous” and a “villain” and accused her of planting stories in the press, according to Vanity Fair.
A topic that came up in Meghan and Harry's Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, was the fact that the pair, accidently it seems, continued to upstage the other princples in the family. Now, if they were to attend the coronation, it is understood that the spotlight would not be on them.
