Alleged Florida Gunman Returns To Scene And Kills Journalist Reporting On First Shooting

Sometimes the truth is stranger and more tragic than fiction. Not one but two shootings occurred just hours apart in an Orlando, Florida, neighborhood on Wednesday, February 22, 2023. As a result, three people are dead, and two more are in critical condition.

The first shooting occurred at around 11 a.m. When police officers arrived at the scene, they found a woman who had been shot in her car. This woman would later succumb to her injuries. The crime scene was processed, and local news stations arrived to cover the incident.

After the first shooting, authorities "conducted follow-up, collected evidence, and developed good leads,” Orange County Sheriff John Mina said in a press conference. There was no indication that the alleged gunman might return, but that’s exactly what happened.

At around 4 p.m., alleged gunman 19-year-old Keith Melvin Moses returned to the scene of the earlier shooting. He reportedly opened fire on two Spectrum News 13 journalists and a mother and child. The four were rushed to a local hospital, but sadly the 9-year-old child and one of the reporters died. Moses was detained following the second shooting.

The gunman's motives are not clear at this time. The suspect does possess a lengthy criminal history including “gun charges, aggravated assault, burglary, and grand theft charges." He has been charged in connection with the first shooting, and it is believed he will also be charged with the second.

"What a horrible day this has been for our community and our media partners," Mina said.
