Plastic Surgeon Reveals What Common Workout Ages People The Fastest: ‘It’s Kind Of Dumb’

Dr. Gerald Imber is a longtime plastic surgeon who has some news that might upset you: According to him, few workouts age our bodies like a run.

Imber is quick to point out that a few miles here and there throughout the week is fine, but more than that can have long-lasting effects that some people might not want. As he says, "Have you ever seen a long-distance, long-time runner that didn’t have a gaunt, old face? That's what happens."

He adds that there are more consequences to regular long-distance running. Imber says, "Your knees go, your ankles go, [and] your back goes. It's kind of dumb."

However, that doesn't mean that Imber thinks everyone should stop running, just that long-distance running isn't necessarily the best daily activity. As he puts it, "So if you want to run a little bit, terrific, but no-impact or low-impact aerobics is really the way to get your exercise."
