To an outsider, acting is all movie premieres, exotic locations, and free gifts. In reality, it is long hours on set, time away from loved ones, and grueling physical and emotional work. It’s not all that glamorous.
This is why Cameron Diaz walked away from the industry in 2018. She chose instead to focus on family and bring her daughter, Raddix, into the world in 2019. She surprised everyone when she announced she would costar with Jamie Foxx in a new Netflix action-comedy film, Back in Action, in 2023. Turns out her return acting will be short-lived.
A source close to the actress revealed to the Daily Mail that Cameron will be retiring again after this film is completed.
“These back-to-back 10-hour workdays have been a lot on her and she hates being away from Raddix,” the source said.
“Cameron loves being a mom more than anything in the world,” the source continued. “Although she has gotten to see her family while shooting the film, it is just not the same.” It has also not been easy on her husband, Benji Madden, even though he fully supports her career.

Back in Action has had its fair share of on-set drama, as well. Jamie reportedly had a meltdown on the set while filming. He ended up firing an executive producer, two directors, and his driver because of it.
The source claims this has nothing to do with Cameron’s decision, as she and Jamie continue to be on good terms. “When you are in a position of authority, sometimes you have to make decisions to let people go who do not share the same vision as you,” the source explained. “Cameron is a businessperson and understands that this is necessary at times and, honestly, Jamie is the only reason that she is doing this film and they are still very close.”
That being said, Cameron does not like the “drama and confrontation” that comes with being an actor. “This is why she retired from the business in the first place. She has already proven herself in the industry and has nothing left to prove to anyone,” they went on to say.
It is believed that the first part of filming for Back in Action took place somewhere in the UK from December 2, 2022, to March 9, 2023. The second part requires a company move to the United States. It will film in Georgia from March 27 to April 14, 2023, according to Screen Daily.
Jamie and Cameron have worked together previously. They first starred together in the 1999 film Any Given Sunday. Cameron’s last project before retiring was their collaboration on 2014’s Annie. She commented on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon how this was a full circle moment.
“The last movie I made was ‘Annie’ with Jamie, and so, the first movie back is this film with Jamie. He’s so great, he’s so easy, he’s so professional, he’s so talented,” she gushed.
Beyond her family, Cameron also is very hands on in her wine business, Avaline. “Cameron has gotten extremely involved in Avaline and was pivotal in its creation. Aveline has grown exponentially and it is something that Cameron is very, very proud of,” the source explained.
