Lea Thompson Criticizes Her Ex-Fiancé Dennis Quaid After He Speaks at Trump Rally

Lea Thompson is clearly not impressed by her ex-fiancé’s politics. She made that quite clear when she reacted to a video of her ex-fiancé Dennis Quaid speaking at one of former President Donald Trump‘s rallies on Saturday, October 12, 2024. In the video that Lea responded to on X (formerly Twitter), 70-year-old Dennis can be heard saying: “Are we going to be a nation of law and order? Or wide open borders? Which is it? Because it’s time to pick a side.”

Lea’s response was succinct: “I was engaged to him. 🤔 #VoteBlueToStopTheStupid #crimeisactuallydown.” The 63-year-old actress has been married to director Howard Deutch since 1989, but shortly before that, she dated Dennis and was planning on marrying him.

The Back to the Future star and the The Parent Trap actor met in 1982 and by 1984, they were engaged, reports the New York Post. In 1987, they ended their relationship after about three years of being engaged.

Now, nearly 40 years later, Lea is cringing at her ex-fiancé’s political views and encouraging people to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris. In a follow-up post on X, Lea shared an image of women in Harris and Tim Walz shirts riding on cats. The image reads, “Ladies, we ride at dawn. November 5, 2024.”

Dennis, meanwhile, spoke to interviewer Piers Morgan in May about his decision to vote for Donald Trump in 2024. At the time, he seemed a bit hesitant, but told Piers: “People might call him an a–hole, but he’s my a–hole.”

In his recent speech at Trump’s rally in California’s Coachella Valley, Dennis doubled down on his support for Trump.

In addition to asking people to choose between “law and order” or “wide open borders,” Dennis asked them to choose between standing for “the Constitution” or “for TikTok.” Elsewhere in the speech, Dennis described Trump as his “favorite president of the 21st century.”

Responding to Lea’s post on X, fans told her that it’s a good thing she didn’t marry Dennis.

“Dodged a bullet, you didn’t marry him,” one person wrote. “Can’t say the same for Meg Ryan.” Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid married in 1991 and divorced in 2001.

Another person wrote, “You came out ahead, Lea.”

Dennis’ ex-fiancée Lea isn’t the only person who doesn’t see eye-to-eye with him. Shortly after Dennis appeared at the Trump rally, fans noticed that his 32-year-old son Jack Quaid has expressed support for Kamala Harris. On September 11, Jack posted about joining Geeks & Nerds for Harris alongside some of his The Boys costars.

“Dear lord she absolutely crushed it last night. Very excited to support Kamala & Tim with these nerds from The Boys LIVE on 9/24 for @geeksforharris. Come join us!” Jack, who is the son of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan, wrote on Instagram.

However, Jack seemingly wanted to make his political stance extra clear after his dad’s appearance at a Trump rally. On October 15, he posted to his Instagram Stories to tell his fans that he’s voting for Kamala Harris. Without mentioning his dad in the post, he simply wrote, “Just so there’s no confusion: I’m voting for Kamala.”

He then encouraged his followers to vote regardless of their political views. “Whether you are or not, register to vote here,” he continued, including a link directing people to register to vote.
