Ellen Once Went Out Of Her Way To Make The Wedding Day Of A Lesbian Couple Very Special

Ellen DeGeneres is a major figure in the gay community. By coming out publicly in 1997, she paved the way for more public figures to be honest about their sexuality and started a larger conversation around the country. One lesbian couple found her so significant that they wanted her to fill some big shoes on their wedding day.

Kate Austin tweeted photos from her proposal to fiancée Sarah Sulsenti to Ellen and Chrissy Teigen. "hi @chrissyteigen & @TheEllenShow!! my parents aren’t going to attend my wedding because they don’t like that I'm gay!" she wrote. "I need someone to walk me down the aisle and someone else for a 'father/daughter; dance. plz come, my fiancée and I would cry #shootingmyshot."

Ellen, who is in the business of changing people's lives, invited the couple on the show. While she isn't able to attend their big day, she made some major moves to give the couple all of her love and support.

Ellen DeGeneres is known for being extremely generous with her fans. Her approachability and big heart are a part of the talk-show host's charm. She recently worked some magic on a same-sex couple from Philadelphia.

Kate Austin tweeted photos from her proposal to fiancée Sarah Sulsenti in Paris. The couple was extending an invitation to their wedding to Ellen and Chrissy Teigen. Their story was truly touching.

"hi @chrissyteigen & @TheEllenShow!! my parents aren’t going to attend my wedding because they don’t like that i’m gay!" she wrote. "i need someone to walk me down the aisle and someone else for a “father/daughter” dance. plz come, my fiancée and i would cry #shootingmyshot."

On Tuesday's show, she featured the happy couple as her guests. They looked shocked as they were welcomed onstage by the audience. They shared their sweet proposal story with the audience members.

Kate thanked Ellen for her contributions to the gay community. "I just have to thank you because if it wasn’t for someone like you, I would have never had the courage to just go out there in the public and be able to propose to my fiancée," she said.

"So many people don’t accept that, and you paved the way for queer women everywhere. It's just the most inspiring thing," she continued. The crowd erupted into applause for Ellen.

"Everybody deserves love. All that matters in this life is love, and the fact that some people don’t understand that — it’s just love," Ellen responded. "There’s nothing wrong with it. And the fact that your family doesn’t accept it, I am so sorry."

Kate explained that while all her siblings are accepting and supportive, her parents are not. "My mom was really terrible. I’ve been out for five years now, and she’s said everything you can think of under the sun," she explained.

Ellen told the ladies she couldn't make it to the wedding but brought out a surprise. It was a cardboard cutout of herself. It had a moving arm that held tissues for the ceremony, which is sure to be a tearjerker.

She wasn't done there. She had another wedding gift. She brought out a big box. When it was lifted, all of Sarah and Kate's supportive family members and friends were there to surprise them.

Sarah then surprised Kate with a proposal, since Kate was the one to propose in Paris. "The way that you feel today is the way that you make me feel every day," she told Kate. "I can't wait to spend my life feeling that way." Kate was bawling.

"For Kate and all the people out there that are not accepted by their family, you are loved by so many people, and we love you for who you are exactly, so know that," Ellen said. "Anybody struggling out there, just be proud of who you are. Know that you’re going to find a different family."

"Congratulations. I'm sorry I can't be at the wedding," Ellen said. She then mentioned how much Shutterfly loves love stories. "They want you to have an open bar, so they're going to give you a check for $25,000."

Sarah and Kate share a beautiful bond and deserve all the happiness in the world. What Ellen brought to their love story was nothing short of amazing. It's the kind of story we could all use some more of, because love is love.
