LAPD Officially Sends Armie Hammer Assault Case To The County’s District Attorney’s Office

Before 2021, Armie Hammer was riding the momentum of a career high. After attempts at being a leading man, he had found his niche in smaller independent films such as Call Me by Your Name to great acclaim. His career quickly crumbled when news broke of multiple women accusing the actor of abuse, oftentimes sexual.

Hammer has long denied these claims but does admit he was emotionally abusive. Now the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing a case involving Hammer. An attorney from the DA’s office confirmed this. A source close to the case revealed more information than the DA’s office was willing to, confirming it was Effie Angelova’s 2021 rape accusations that the DA was reviewing.

“I can confirm that the LAPD has presented a case regarding Armie Hammer to the LADA. The matter is currently under review,” district attorney’s office spokesperson Tiffiny Blacknell said. She declined to comment on specifics about the case.

A source close to the case went into further detail with NBC News. The Los Angeles Police Department sent the DA its investigation into sex assault allegations that were made in 2021. Detectives from the LAPD’s West Bureau Sex Assault Unit helmed this investigation. It is unknown at this time why it took two years to reach the DA’s office.

The case centers around a woman who was initially known only as Effie but has since revealed herself as Effie Angelova. She originally made her claims public on an Instagram account called House of Effie. In 2021, the LAPD confirmed it was investigating her claims.

“On April 24th, 2017, Armie Hammer violently raped me for over four hours in Los Angeles, during which he repeatedly slammed my head against a wall, bruising my face,” Angelova began her 2021 statement. “He also committed other acts of violence against me to which I did not consent. I thought that he was going to kill me.”

According to Angelova, she met Hammer when she was 20 years old. They connected via Facebook and began an affair. Hammer was married to Elizabeth Chambers at the time.

In an interview with Airmail, Hammer denies raping Angelova. He said it was a “consensual non-consent scene” and that he wishes he still had the messages to prove this. “If I still had these messages, I would have been able to put this to bed in .5 seconds. This alleged rape was a scene that was her idea,” he stated.

Hammer has yet to comment on the new development in this case. His lawyer declined to comment to NBC. They have previously called allegations against the actor “outrageous.”

Hammer does admit to being emotionally abusive to his previous partners. “I had a very intense and extreme lifestyle, and I would scoop up these women, bring them into it — into this whirlwind of travel and sex and drugs and big emotions flying around — and then as soon as I was done, I’d just drop them off and move on to the next woman, leaving that woman feeling abandoned or used,” he stated.

Time will tell if the DA brings charges against the disgraced actor.
