CNN has fired longtime anchor Don Lemon.
The news came as a surprise to Lemon himself, who has since tweeted that he was told about his termination by his agent, not anyone at the network. He claimed, "I am stunned. At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network."
CNN executives have since clarified that they do not agree with Lemon's version of events. In their own series of tweets, network management wrote, "He was offered an opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter."
CNN CEO Chris Licht also sent a message to staff at the network that explained Lemon's departure. He said, "Don will forever be a part of the CNN family, and we thank him for his contributions over the past 17 years. We wish him well and will be cheering him on in his future endeavors."

Don Lemon has been part of the CNN family for 17 years. He joined back in 2006 and hosted Don Lemon Tonight for eight years before moving to a position as an anchor for CNN This Morning. He encountered controversy in February 2023 after he said that potential presidential candidate Nikki Haley "isn’t in her prime."
