Drew Barrymore Opens Up About Complicated Relationship With Her Mom: ‘I Forgive’

Drew Barrymore has had a long, emotional journey when it comes to her family. The now 48-year-old actress won legal emancipation from her father, John Drew Barrymore, and mother, Jaid Barrymore, when she was 14 years old. She recently opened up about her complicated relationship with her mother in a profile interview with Vulture.

Drew talked about how she has been learning how to grow despite her mother still being alive. In reference to her neighbors, she said: “All their moms are gone, and my mom’s not. And I’m like, well, I don’t have that luxury. But I cannot wait. I don’t want to live in a state where I wish someone to be gone sooner than they’re meant to be so I can grow."

She clarified that she was not wishing any negativity on her mom. "I actually want her to be happy and thrive and be healthy," she shared. “I do care. I’ll never not care. I don’t know if I’ve ever known how to fully guard, close off, not feel, build the wall up.”
