Utah Pageant Winner, 17, Has Title Stripped Due To Mistakes Made By Miss America

One Utah teen is not sure she'll ever want to compete in any more pageants after a recent devastating experience. Amanda Giraldi had just been named Miss Lehi Teen on Saturday. Three days later, an error on the organization's end resulted in her crown and her title being revoked.

According to pageant officials, Amanda was too old to compete in the competition. Pageant representatives shared with her that the mistake was a "clerical error" made on the documents by Miss America. The original documents documents Amanda signed stated that participants must be born between 2005 and 2010. She was born in 2005, but updated rules raised the new cutoff date to 2006.

“I’m disappointed because I really worked hard for it and I just feel like the opportunity was taken from me,” Amanda shared. “I feel as though it’s unfair."

“Our state leadership takes full responsibility for the oversight in eligibility criteria, and our hearts also go out to you for the distress that was caused by the removal of your crown and sash," a statement from the Miss Utah Organization read. "We want to be clear that these were the result of human error, not an error from the Miss America national office. We are actively working to put measures into place to ensure that future mistakes like these are prevented.”
