Sometimes it pays to be a bit of a nosy neighbor who possesses the tenacity to reach out and make sure everything is OK with those around them.
Eighty-year-old Sally Peterson usually kept to herself, but when she heard what sounded like the loud sobs of a little boy coming from her neighbor’s house, she decided to investigate.
The following day, Sally went over to her other neighbor, Billie, to ask if she’d heard anything odd. Sally told her that she thought it must have been little Jason she heard crying in the middle of the night.
They both noted that they hadn’t seen Jason’s mother, Addison, for a few days and it may have something to do with Jason’s father, who they had both witnessed be abusive toward his wife.
Even though Billie told Sally to mind her business and stay away from the troubled family, Sally persisted and when she heard Jason crying again later that night, she called her friend and insisted that they go over to check on him.
Shortly after, Billie and a few of their other neighbors went over to Jason’s house and knocked on the door. They called out to him but he wouldn’t come to the door. When they still heard the persistent crying coming from inside the house, they knew they had to call 911.

When they entered the house that day with police officers at their side, sure enough, little Jason was all alone. They tried to get it out of him what had happened, but they soon discovered that the young boy likely suffered from speech issues.
