Blake Lively recently created a new line of sparkling cocktails, called Betty Booze. She already had a nonalcoholic line, called Betty Buzz. Blake does not drink, so this left many of her fan’s perplexed by this business choice.
Many of these disgruntled fans took to Instagram to express their concerns. Several others including some celeb friends defended her actions. Blake herself even addressed the controversy.
“Drinking isn’t my thing," Blake captioned her Instagram announcement about the new line. "But for f* sake, flavor is. Homemade recipes. Real fruit. Real ingredients. Quality booze. No crap. Also a real time saver. Which is why I really did it.”
In the comments section of that post, she faced backlash.
“How can you market/create a product you don’t openly consume yourself?” asked one user.
“It’s so lame when celebrities who don’t drink suddenly promote alcohol,” chimed in another.
Other fans were quick to defend Blake.
“Someone can not drink and still create a drink for those who do,” pointed out one fan.
Blake also got back up from her celebrity friends. “Drinking ain’t your thing but when u make a drink for someone else, best bet they’re having a good time (me, I’m someone else),” wrote Gigi Hadid.

Blake and her staff addressed the dissension in the comments section in two ways. The Betty Buzz Instagram account responded to a comment expressing concern. It wrote: “Blake famously makes cocktails for friends and family at home (even if she doesn't drink them herself) so we bottled up her homemade recipe for others to enjoy!”
Blake explained the difference between the products in another Instagram post. She explains she wanted to give people both the option to drink alcohol and to abstain. “Because that’s what hosts do. We make something for everyone. And not usually ourselves,” she stated. “Wait, I’m describing moms now.”
