The Prince and Princess of Wales have today become Joint Patrons of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust following a visit by Her Royal Highness to the hospital’s Chelsea site. Kate Middleton's own personal cancer journey saw her receive treatment from The Royal Marsden. “It is a relief to now be in remission” from cancer “and I remain focused on recovery. As anyone who has received a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal.” These are the words with which Kate Middleton shared an important update on her state of health, in a social media message posted after visiting the hospital that followed her in her cancer treatments, the Royal Marsden in Chelsea, London. Despite the difficulty of putting the experience of illness behind her, the Princess of Wales explained that she is impatient to live “a fulfilling year. There is much to look forward to,” she concluded.
In the post, Kate began by thanking “everyone for their continued support.”
And she added a particular thought for the hospital that took care of her: “I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the Royal Marsden for taking such good care of me over the past year. My heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who has walked silently alongside William and me as we faced everything. We couldn’t have asked for more. The care and advice we received during my time as a patient were exceptional. In my new role as Joint Patron of the Royal Marsden, my hope is that, by supporting innovative research and clinical excellence, as well as promoting the well-being of patients and families, we can save many more lives and transform the experience of all those affected by cancer.”
