Collin Gosselin was thrust into fame as a baby appearing on the hit TLC show Jon & Kate Plus 8 alongside his parents, sextuplet siblings, and twin sisters. The show, which began airing in 2007, documented how two parents could juggle it all and manage to raise eight children. After Jon and Kate got divorced, the show continued, rebranded as Kate Plus 8 until 2017. These days, Kate is estranged from two of her children Collin and Hannah, who live with their father Jon.
As part of Vice TV’s new series Dark Side of the 2000s, Collin spoke about his relationship with his mother and what led to their falling out. His sister Hannah also weighed in.
Collin believes his mother used him as a scapegoat to take out her anger on. "I know my mother was going through a lot of things," Collin explained. "I mean, a divorce, and plenty of different things that can't be easy to go through. And, you know, I want to think that she needed someone to take out her anger and frustration on, and it was just kind of me. I was in the way and I was there. So, she chose me."
"I'm not going to say I was a perfect child,” Collin goes on to say. “But I'd say my misbehaving was no different than from my siblings." Kate sent Collin to a residential institution for alleged "educational and social challenges." Jon would eventually be granted sole custody.

Hannah weighed in about how Collin was treated differently than his siblings. "He would be separated from us," she recalled. "Like, he would not get to come and play outside with us. He would eat dinner at different times than us. I don't think effort was made in the home to help him learn what behavior is acceptable and what behavior is not acceptable."
