Families are complicated, and when infidelity is part of the equation, things become even more muddy. This impacts even the most famous of celebrities. You might not know superstar Beyoncé has a half brother who is not in contact with. This causes 13-year-old Nixon to wonder why he doesn't love her, according to his mother Alexsandra Wright.
Alexsandra spoke to The Sun about the challenges of raising Nixon in Beyoncé’s shadow. She does not want any financial support from the family, but hopes her son will someday have a relationship with his half sister. She believes social media might play a role in their future connection.
Nixon is the product of an affair between Beyoncé’s father and ex-manager, Mathew Knowles, and Alexsandra. Matthew was married to Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles while cheating with Alexsandra. This is a hard concept for Nixon to grasp and he questions why his half sister does not have affection for him. “[He asks], ‘Why doesn’t that person love me?’” Alexsandra states.
Alexsandra struggles to help her son cope with these hard truths and his proximity to fame. “Nixon has never had the luxury of being a normal child,” she explained. “Being related to someone famous smothers kids like him, and they lose their identity. I sit in the bathroom and cry sometimes because I just don’t know how to help him be his own person.”

Alexsandra first met Matthew while working for Microsoft in Seattle. She was helping close a business deal for Beyoncé. Even though Matthew was married, she says he was relentless in pursuing her.
“He said, ‘I am going to stay in Seattle until you agree to have a drink with me,’” Alexsandra says. “And he stayed for two or three weeks until, finally, I said ‘fine!’” This began their two-year affair.
Alexsandra confesses she did not feel guilty for being with a married man. “I was not conflicted about the situation, because his marriage was not a functioning marriage,” she explained. “I don’t think he told his family about me.” At one point she even thought Matthew truly loved her. “It was a complex situation, and the family structure had been fractured for a long time.”
Alexsandra had Nixon in February 2010, and the following month a DNA test proved his paternity. The couple broke up in 2011 amid tension in his relationship with Beyonce. According to Alexsandra, a financial audit was conducted against Matthew to see if he was cooking the books and profiting off his daughter.
“We had joint credit cards and bank accounts and after the audit started, he just cut them off,” she recalled. “I left him, and he didn’t ever expect me to make that choice. I ended it because I’m better than that.”
Matthew has never met his son and does not pay child support. Alexsandra was left bankrupt after attempting to collect support from him and was forced to move in with a friend. She has since gotten back on her feet.
It is not easy for Nixon to understand how his family can have so much wealth compared to him. “I tell him, ‘Fame does not equal happiness, so never covet what someone else has,’” Alexsandra explained. “It’s hard to see people living as billionaires.”
Nixon also has to deal with other people’s relentless questions and curiosity. “People will ask him straight up at school, ‘Are you the brother?’” Alexsandra explained. “Whatever they can Google, they will ask him directly. Even the grown-ups will take pictures of him.” This isn’t easy for a growing boy to understand, especially an introverted one. “It’s hard for him to comprehend,” Alexsandra added. “He’s a quiet kid and very reserved.”
