Manson Cult Member Leslie Van Houten Released From Prison After Serving 53 Years

Leslie Van Houten, a follower of Charles Manson, has been released from prison. The former cult member served 53 years behind bars. She was the youngest of Manson's followers, and is now 73 years old.

Van Houten was released to parole supervision. According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, she will have a three-year maximum parole term and a parole discharge review will be held after one year.

She was one of many Manson followers convicted of the 1969 murders of Leno LaBianca and his wife Rosemary. Her time had been served at the California Institution for Women in Corona.

According to an attorney of Van Houten, Rich Pfeiffer, she is ready to be out in the world. "She has some computer skills from the job she had in prison. She has got a master’s degree. She is very bright. She has got a lot of support from family and friends. She will do just fine.”
