Shannen Doherty, the beloved actress known for her roles in popular television series such as Beverly Hills, 90210, and Charmed, has been undergoing treatments for cancer for several years. In a powerful and candid move, Shannen recently took to social media to share a poignant glimpse into her journey.
She posted a video moments before undergoing brain surgery. By shedding light on the reality of living with cancer, Shannen not only inspires countless individuals but also raises awareness about the relentless nature of the disease during her fight with stage 4 breast cancer.
In the caption of her video, she stated, “January 16th, 2023. Surgery. I had a tumor in my head they wanted to remove and also biopsy. I am clearly trying to be brave, but I am petrified. The fear was overwhelming to me. Scared of all possible bad outcomes, worried about leaving my mom and how that would impact her. Worried that I would come out of surgery not me anymore.” She added, “This is what cancer can look like.”
Shannen posted this video a few days after she updated all of her Instagram followers on the heartbreaking news about her cancer spreading to her brain. Her CT scan showed that she had brain metastases, which is when cancer cells spread from their original spot to the brain.
Shannen was first diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2015 and then in February 2020, she announced that she had stage 4 breast cancer. She also stated in the caption of her video, “I am fortunate as I have great doctors like Dr. Amin Mirahdi and the amazing techs at Cedar Sinai. But that fear…The turmoil…the timing of it all…This is what cancer can look like.”
