Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau And Wife Sophie Announce Their Separation

It is never an easy decision to break up a marriage. It is even more complicated when one is in the public eye. On August 2, 2023, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau announced in Instagram posts that they are separating.

The road to this decision was not easy and came with “many meaningful and difficult conversations.” They vowed to “remain a close family with deep love and respect for each other.” They asked for privacy and respect for themselves and their children at this difficult time.

Justin and Sophie first met when they were just kids. Sophie attended school with Justin’s youngest brother Michel. They reconnected in 2003 as adults but Justin actually didn’t respond to Sophie’s advances at first because he was not ready to start anything serious. When they ran into each other again, Justin quickly changed his mind. Their first date involved Afghan food and karaoke.

Justin and Sophie were married in 2005 at Sainte-Madeleine d'Outremont Church in Montreal. They welcomed their first child, Xavier, on October 18, 2007. Ella-Grace followed on February 5, 2009. Hadrien completed their family on February 28, 2014.
