Damian Lillard has decided to call it quits with his wife, Kay'La, after two years of marriage. The NBA All-Star filed for divorce from his college sweetheart on October 2, 2023, which comes less than a week after he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks from the Portland Trail Blazers.
The filing cited "irreconcilable differences” that caused an irremediable breakdown of the marriage. According to a report, it appears that the two have been living in separate homes for some time. In December 2022, Kay'La moved to a home in West Linn, Oregon, while Damian stayed at the house they once shared together.
The former couple first met at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. According to the 33-year-old basketball star, Kay'La took care of him at his lowest. “She had the car, an apartment and bent over backwards for me," Damian shared with Ebony in 2021. "Kay’La accepted me with all my flaws as a young man.”
He went on to propose to her during the NBA’s All-Star weekend in Chicago in 2020. They got married in 2021 and have three kids, 5-year-old Damian Jr. and 2-year-old twins Kalii and Kali.

On September 27, 2023, Damian was traded to Milwaukee after 11 seasons in Portland. “I want to start off by saying this isn’t a goodbye, it’s a see you later,” he wrote in a sentimental post. “My words have always been from the heart when it comes to you Rip City. I consider you my home as well as many of my family members and that won’t change. I’ve built my entire adulthood here and made so many friends that I will never forget.”
