Parenting is a challenging journey filled with tough decisions and moments that test a parent’s resolve. A father’s unusual approach to addressing his daughter’s bullying behavior has sparked both admiration and debate. To instill empathy and responsibility, this dad decided to have his daughter walk to school after she was once again kicked off the school bus for bullying.
When Matt Cox learned that his daughter had been bullying her peers on the school bus, he knew he needed to address the issue in a way that would make a lasting impact. The way his daughter came home to inform him of what happened probably helped him make his decision!
Matt said: "She looked at me and she said, 'well, Dad you’re going to have to take me to school next week I got kicked off the bus.' So, I decided that I’m not going to be one of those parents that just sweeps it under the rug and chalk it up to 'kids will be kids.'" Instead of opting for a traditional form of punishment, he decided to have his daughter walk to school, symbolizing the importance of personal responsibility and accountability.
The video that made this story go viral shows Matt’s daughter walking on the side of the road with him following her in his car. During the video, Matt explains exactly what happened and the reason why his daughter is walking the 5 miles to school. In the video, he says, “Let me make this extremely clear, bullying is unacceptable.”
Matt got around 15 million views on his video. He then read the comments of people sharing their stories of bullying with his three kids. Matt claims there wasn’t a dry eye in the house after they all got done reading through a lot of the comments.
