In a terrifying incident in New Mexico, a family’s desperate attempt to save their injured dog turned into a frightening encounter with the police. The shocking events were captured on the police officer’s body camera, leaving many questioning the response and approach taken by law enforcement during this emotionally charged situation.
The incident started when William Albrecht was driving with his family, including their injured dog Stella, to a veterinarian’s office. William admits that he was speeding in his vehicle, but it was a dire situation. Their family pet had been hit by a car, and time was of the essence to get the dog medical attention.
Upon being pulled over by the New Mexico police officer, William pleaded with the officer to understand the urgency of the situation. The family needed to get their injured dog to the vet as quickly as possible. As a loving and responsible pet owner, William’s desperation was evident, but his pleas seemed to go unanswered.
The whole bodycam clip is heartbreaking. As William is on his knees getting handcuffed by the officer, he keeps yelling out: “My dog’s about to die! My dog’s about to die! Please! My neighbor hit my dog! That’s my son and my wife!” Even their 16-year-old son was forced to kneel, held down, and handcuffed.
Thankfully, after four long minutes, the police officer seemed to recognize the family’s genuine emergency and released them from the terrifying predicament. In the bodycam footage, right before William was able to leave, he said to the police officer, “I can’t believe you pulled a gun on my kid, sir.” The police officer responded with, “It’s policy.”
