Parents know that their kids’ homework can sometimes feel like a group project. Mom Laura Rathbone, who is 40 and lives in Buckinghamshire, England, was recently stumped by a question in her first grader's homework . Her daughter Lilly-Mo is 6 years old and needed some help.
Laura took to Facebook for backup. She thought other parents could help her out with the answer. Turns out, they were just as perplexed as she was.
The question causing everyone anguish was this: “Which word is the odd one out?” The options given were: friend, toothbrush, silver, desk, and egg.
“At first I thought I was losing my mind. I was like, ‘What am I missing here?’” So I posted in a group with loads of moms hoping they would have the answer,” Laura explained to Today.
Turns out everyone in the Facebook group had a different answer. Laura thought it was fascinating to see what people came up with. “You can only eat an egg,” one user pointed out. “Toothbrush is the only word without an E," mused another. “Friend because it’s a person and not an object," shared another user.

The next day, Laura asked her daughter’s teacher about the question. The correct answer is actually silver because it is not a noun. This is a gray area though because technically silver can be both a noun and an adjective. Try this question on your friends to see what answer they come up with.
