One of the weirder evolutionary aspects of childbirth is that babies often look more like their fathers right after birth. This may be so there is no doubt about who’s the daddy. Looks like Mother Nature snoozed on this case. A new mom took to Reddit’s popular AITA forum to share her story.
Her husband freaked out after his daughter was born because he did not think that she looked like him. He demanded a paternity test even though his wife told him the baby was his. She laughed in his face when the test proved her right. Now she wonders if she was wrong for doing so.
The husband was shocked at his daughter's appearance.
The new mom explained she is 27 years old and her husband is 28. They have been married for two years. Five weeks ago she gave birth to their first child, a daughter. “What happened was that our daughter came out with blonde hair and pale blue eyes, while my husband and I have brown hair and brown eyes,” she explained. “My husband freaked out at this and refused to listen to my explanation that, sometimes, babies are born with lighter hair and eyes that get darker over time. He demanded a paternity test and threatened to divorce me if I didn't comply, so I did.”
The husband has left the building.
The husband was so upset that he left his wife and child. He went to stay with his mom until the results of the paternity test came back. During this time, his mother even threatened her daughter-in-law.

The paternity results are in.
“We got the results back yesterday, and my husband came home to view them with me,” the new mom went on to say. “I was on the couch in the living room, so he sat next to me and we started to read the results. They showed that he was the father and my husband had this shocked, kinda mortified look on his face with his eyes wide as he stared at it. I couldn't help but say, 'I told you so.' and started laughing at the way he looked.”
The husband and father left again.
The dad didn’t take that well either. “My husband snapped out of his shock, and got mad at me for laughing at him,” she recalled. “We argued for a bit, which was mainly him yelling at me, before my sister came downstairs and my husband shut up.” The husband and father went back to his mother’s house. The mother-in-law got involved again and yelled at her daughter-in-law.
The mom wants to know if she is in the wrong here. She even updated her post to clarify she has no history of cheating.
The mom is the real victim here.
Reddit came through for the mom and was 100% on her side. They cannot believe how immature the husband acted. They also cannot believe his mother backed him up.
“He threw a tantrum and left you immediately after the having the baby to struggle alone for almost a month," one user noted. "He’s lucky all you did was laugh in his face."
A quick genetics lesson.
The community doesn’t get how the dad doesn’t understand basic biology. It is not uncommon for children to have different hair and eye colors than their parents.
One user commented: “My husband and I both have dark brown hair and dark eyes. Our child = blonde and blue eyes. Has OPs husband never heard of recessive genes?”
Why did the dad act like this?
Reddit users tried to explain this dad’s bad behavior. There are multiple theories. Many pointed out that the new dad might have a guilty conscience.
"He's projecting his own infidelity," mused another user.
Others believe he doesn’t really want to be a dad.
One user had a theory: “He doesn’t want the baby. He was hoping to get out of this entirely by finding he wasn’t the parent, and now he’s p—ed off that his little plot didn’t work.”
Some people think that this mom should get a divorce.
“I'm not sure I could stay married to the guy if I was OP,” chimed in one user.
This poor mom...
The new mom has so much to process. She also has a brand new baby to take care of and has to heal from childbirth. At least she can hold onto the fact that Reddit users believe she did nothing wrong in this difficult situation.
