A mom threw a Build-a-Bear Workshop party for her child and pulled a move that's so bold and shocking, you'll have to read it to believe it.
An anonymous mom held a party for her daughter's sixth birthday and invited a bunch of her friends from school. The party involved cake, pizza, and a Build-a-Bear Workshop. So far, so good.
But after the kids finished painstakingly building their bears, the mom announced that they had to hand them over to the birthday girl. All of the bears were, apparently, for her.
Needless to say, there were a lot of tears and disappointment.

The story made it onto social media, thanks to the parent of one of the attendees. People are having very strong reactions, because seriously, who does this?!
"I AM ANGRY AT THIS," one Twitter user wrote.
"MONSTER," writer Nicole Cliffe tweeted.

The bad news is that there's not really a happy ending to this story. The good news is that it is a truly wild ride that will make you feel great about yourself in comparison!
A Reddit user shared the most stunningly awful story on /r/Parenting this week. The user was upset after a child's birthday party took a strange turn and wanted to know if the user, whose child attended the party, was overreacting or not. Spoiler: the user was not.
The story began:
“Earlier today I went to a birthday party for my daughters (6) friend from school.”
“We had cake and pizza in the food court, then went down to BAB [Build-a-Bear] to make bears, then back to friends house for the rest of the party.”
The invitation had said that each kid would get to make a bear, and the parent assumed that the kids would take their bears home at the end. There were about eight kids at the party.
"Me and my husband even pitched in about 30 dollars as we know these things can get expensive," the parent wrote.
The kids had a blast picking out their animals and accessories.
The parent continued:
“As far as I know the parents didn’t really put a limit, but I made my daughter stick to just a standard dog with a shirt, which about half the parents did as well. All is well, we leave the store, then friends mom announces that the kids need to give all their animals to her daughter.”
That's right, the mom of the birthday girl made every one of the other kids give their custom bears to her daughter as a present — without warning anyone first.
"Cue the upset and angry kids."
(Note that this Build-a-Bear party wasn't run by the employees.)
The parent recalled:
“They all disappointingly handed over their animals, and friend wasn’t even being nice about it either. Another little boy didn’t want to, and friend ripped it out of his hands.”
Then everyone went back to the birthday girl's house, where they watched her play with her eight new bears.
"I felt bad so we went to build a bear and got [my own child] a new one," the parent wrote.
The parent ended by asking whether this is "totally normal" and to be expected, or whether the user was being an "entitled parent."
The Reddit post quickly gained a lot of attention and made it onto Twitter, because people just could not believe that a mom would really do this to other people's kids.
Amazingly, the parent added an update on Reddit after getting a chance to talk to the birthday girl's mom about the party. There was no remorse or acknowledgment that taking everyone's bears was a weird/mean thing to do.
Many people on social media feel really bad for the birthday girl, whose friends are all going to resent her now.
"I'm sure all those stuffed animals will be a great comfort to this child when no one ever attends another of her birthday parties," one user wrote.
One former Build-a-Bear Workshop employee confirmed that this is, indeed, a thing that happens.
"I used to run a BABW and had two parties where parents did the exact same terrible thing," the employee said.
But for the most part, this is NOT how a Build-a-Bear party is supposed to go!
The whole fun part is that everyone gets to make and keep a bear. Or maybe everyone contributes something special to the birthday kid's bear.
Hopefully the mom from this story learns something from all of this negative feedback.
"I'm beyond furious with these people," one person tweeted. "I want to take all the bears and beat them with the bears."
And hopefully this story serves as a cautionary tale to anyone who plans on having a Build-a-Bear birthday party in the near future! Don't be this mom.
