King Charles III Diagnosed With Cancer After Enlarged Prostate Procedure

On Monday, February 5, 2024, a shocking announcement was made by Buckingham Palace. Just one week after undergoing a corrective procedure for an enlarged prostate, King Charles III was diagnosed with cancer. Much remains unknown.

Charles has already begun receiving treatment. It is not known what kind of cancer he has but it was disclosed that it is not prostate cancer. He will not be taking on public-facing duties during his treatment. The palace has stated that Charles will also not make any further comments about his treatments or prognosis at this time.

"During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted," the palace’s statement began. "Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer. His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.”

The king wanted to share this news for two reasons. He didn’t want people speculating about it. He also wanted to shed light on the disease. He hopes by sharing his diagnosis "it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."

Charles is thankful for all the medical professionals involved in his treatment. He is sorry to have to postpone or cancel many of his engagements. His daughter-in-law Kate Middleton has also temporarily stepped back from royal duties after undergoing planned abdominal surgery on January 17 and isn’t expected to return to duties until April. Queen Camilla will maintain her full schedule during her husband’s treatment.
