King Charles' cancer diagnosis has come as a surprise to many, including those who work in the palace. On February 5, 2024, just a day after photos of Queen Camilla at a new cancer support center in the UK were posted to the royal family's social media to highlight World Cancer Day, the palace issued a lengthy statement revealing that the monarch has cancer.
The announcement comes with permission from King Charles', not too long after his procedure on January 26 for a benign enlarged prostate
"During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer," the statement read. It went on to share that he will have a schedule of regular treatments and will postpone all of his public duties. "His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."
“I was really shocked when I heard it,” one palace insider responded to the King's diagnosis. Another source who is close to the monarch said, “He has not looked himself. I put it down to grief — he’d had two deaths close together, but maybe he wasn’t well, without realizing so. It would take it out of him.”

Another insider spoke about King Charles having to step back from some of his duties. “He will want to get on with the job. But that will depend on what treatment he is having. It may be utterly draining on him. He will need a lot of support.”
