Open and honest communication is a good thing. You just have to make sure you aren’t so honest that it hurts. Jennifer Lopez’s 15-year-old twins Maximilian "Max" David Muniz and Emme Maribel Muniz, are toeing the line. Thankfully the “Love Don’t Cost A Thing” singer has a good sense of humor about it all.
Jennifer opened up about this to Variety. She explained her twins prefer her old music. They are not that into her new stuff. There’s a compliment hidden in there somewhere.
In their defense the twins did help inspire J.Lo’s new album. This Is Me … Now, which comes out on February 16, 2024, is a follow-up to 2002’s This Is Me … Then. She has the older version in the house and noticed her kids were actually listening.
"They said, 'Is this you, Mommy?'" Jennifer explained. "I'm like, 'Yeah, this is an album I did 18 years ago.' I played them another song and asked them if they liked it, and they said yes, and I said, 'I wrote this.'"

The twins didn’t stop there. "And then they're like, 'Yeah, we like this more than the music you make now,'” she stated. "Ouch. But a good ouch."
Jennifer and husband Ben Affleck have a blended family. Jennifer shares Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony. Ben shares Violet, 18, Seraphina Rose, 15, and Samuel, 11, with ex-wife Jennifer Garner. That’s a lot of teenage angst in one family.
Jennifer joked about this on Live with Kelly and Mark. "It's almost five teenagers!" Jennifer mused. "The youngest is 11, so he's not quite, but preteen!"
“The teenage years are tough," Jennifer admitted. "It's challenging. You have this baby for a while and then it's like, your best little friend who loves being with you all the time, and then all of a sudden it's like, 'Get out of my room.'"
"It's a time when they are challenging everything you say and everything you do and everything you are, and that's what it is. And you have to kind of just ride the waves,” she advised. "I feel like it's surfing. I'm riding the waves, and then it's like, 'Oops, I just got knocked over!' Now, I'm back, I'm back!"
Before Ben’s kids were a part of her life, Jennifer is proud to have given her twins an experience she never would have dreamed of growing up in the Bronx. She gushed to Travel + Leisure about how important and special it was to her to bring Max and Emme along for her 2012 Dancing Again World Tour. They were just 4 years old at the time.
"It gave the kids the opportunity to see the world," she explained. "The kids got to see South America, Europe, all over the United States, Asia, and all different places. So they got to see all of this at a very young age and I always thought, 'What an amazing thing to do when you’re only 4 years old.'"
The twins soaked it all in. "They came back from that trip saying, ‘Can we go back to Singapore next year?’ Where someone like me, who grew up in the Bronx, never had things like that," she added.
Jennifer loves all their kids, both hers and her stepkids, even when they have strong opinions on her music.
