Michelle had been working at a busy family-style restaurant for about six months. She worked as a cleaner and even though it wasn’t the most prestigious position, she was happy to be able to pay her bills and keep a roof over her head.
She worked hard cleaning the kitchen throughout each shift and felt pride in making sure everything was pristine for all of the cooking and prep staff.
One day when she was taking out the garbage, she stumbled upon a heartbreaking scene. Someone had jumped into one of the dumpsters and was presumably digging deep to see if they could find any edible food. Before she could say anything, she saw a young boy’s head pop up. He quickly ran off after he saw Michelle.
As Michelle watched the boy run down the street, she couldn’t help but feel guilty. She wasn’t going to say anything to anybody. If anything, she wanted to offer him some help. She started to formulate a plan for if she ever saw the kid again.
The next day, just as Michelle was cleaning up after the lunch hour rush, she heard something out back by the trash bins. Sure enough, when she stuck her head out the back door, she saw the boy who had been there the previous day. Before he could scurry off, Michelle told him to hang tight as she had something to give him.
