Talk about journeying through life with a person! For a pair of best friends and their kids, that's exactly what happened! Two best friends of 30 years were in for the sweetest surprise when they found out their children were marrying each other, and that surprise recently doubled when the couple announced that they are expecting a baby.
Toni Wells and Beth Thomas met in the 1980s in a newlywed class following their marriages. They would go on to be glued at the hip for all these years, along with their husbands, Rick Wells and Blake Thomas.
Both of the couples had three children each, who all grew up with each other. Ashley and Luke Thomas (Ashley being Toni's daughter and Luke being Beth's son) were born four months a part. They grew up "like siblings," pretty much glued to the hip as well.
“We have been raised together our entire lives and have treated each other like siblings since the beginning,” Ashley said in an interview with People. “My mom said it perfectly the other day, ‘I didn’t just have 3 kids, I have 6 and I love each and every one of them.’”

Ashley has documented the span of their childhood-turned-relationship on her TikTok account, which has millions of viewers invested. In one particular video, the two are seen on a slip and slide when the person behind the camera asks if they're going to get married one day. Young Ashley and Luke scream, "No!" before the video transitions into a clip from their wedding years later! “It was always you,” Ashley wrote in the caption.
As it was told, they held years of a platonic relationship before they both started having feelings toward each other. They pursued a romantic relationship together in college, and then got married four years later in 2020.
“It’s funny because everyone we talk to, whether it's people we run into or barely know, always say, ‘We knew it when you didn’t,’ but I think it’s [because] they all wished it would happen, like the ending of a good movie or book,” Ashley said. Many of those who witnessed their friendship and relationship attended their wedding.
In December 2023, Ashley and Luke learned that they were expecting. "A day they have dreamed about for years! This little babe will have the best grandparents ever!" Ashley captioned the video of them announcing their pregnancy. Their reaction to the box that read, “First In-laws, now grandparents. Baby Thomas/Wells arriving August 2024," was priceless.
"Mom and bestfriend technically made their own bloodline together ," one person commented.
"They literally win at life," another person commented.
Another chimed in: "They were the soulmates the whole time one could only pray for a friendship like this ❤️."
“[My mother-in-law] and my mom had been waiting for this day since the moment we got together and have asked us when we wanted to start trying,” Ashley said. “It was so special, and we couldn’t be more thrilled; thrilled that we are even having this precious baby, but also because this baby gets the best set of grandparents we could ever ask for. Our baby could not be more loved.”
