There are many reasons why the 1994 wedding of Céline Dion and René Angélil was memorable, but there's one particular reason that the singer can't forget: she was injured by her wedding tiara. Céline revealed in a new Vogue video that she actually ended up being hospitalized after her wedding due to the adornment.
The tiara decorated Céline's head with 2,000 Swarovski crystals, then flaring out into her veil, making her wedding look iconic. But as the saying goes, beauty is pain sometimes, right?
The "My Heart Will Go On" singer shared that she had to be “sewn” into the tiara. During their wedding rehearsal, in a ballroom with wooden floor, she didn't run into any issues with the weight of the headpiece upon her head. But what she didn't take into consideration was rehearsing in the cathedral where the ceremony took place, as the carpeted floors affected the feel of the tiara.
“I practiced and everything is smooth and everything is fine, but when I had to walk in the cathedral, it's no wooden floor, it's a carpet. I had an immediate facelift,” she explained. “And it's like, ‘Am I going to make it? Am I going to make it to my future husband? But like I said, ‘Oh, I’m Gonna Run to You.’ I did.”

While the rest of the night ran rather smoothly, Céline says she found herself injured when it came time to take the tiara off. “When we removed the tiara, I had a cut because the pressure was too much."
“The next day, I wake up I look at myself in the mirror, I have the size of an egg in the middle of my forehead," she continued. "It’s so huge that it makes my eyes [go cross-eyed]."
They decided to get the injury checked out by a doctor. She was eventually prescribed antibiotics to use for three weeks to help the swelling go down. Despite the pain she had to endure, the singer says she wouldn’t change a thing.
“This is a moment that will be with me for the rest of my life,” she shared. “The dress couldn’t have been big enough. I could’ve had three times the size on my head. I could’ve had six different dresses that night because he was, and still is, such a wonderful human being. He brought [out] the best in me. He really did.”
René died in 2016 at the age of 73 from cancer. The couple shared three children together. The manager-turned-husband also had children from his previous marriages.
"Their love was timeless, but had to be fought for- love this woman!" one person commented on the couple's love story. "
Love is a beautiful thing when it’s as beautiful a thing for Celine," another person wrote. "Bless her."
