Man Pays $14 Per Set For 2 Pair Of $14K Cartier Diamond Earrings After Dispute With Brand

One lucky man landed two pairs of Cartier diamond earrings, valued at $14k each, for just $14 per set after a dispute with the luxury jewelry company. It all started in December 2023 when Rogelio Villarreal, who lives in Tamaulipas, Mexico, came across an ad for the jeweler while scrolling on Instagram.

He went to the site and couldn't believe how expensive the items were. “I was amazed to see how much the necklaces cost and so on and I said: ‘Someday,’ until I saw the earrings,” he posted to X.

The earrings he was referring to were the Clash de Cartier earrings, a pair of 18K rose gold stud hoops embedded with 142 brilliant-cut diamonds — and they were being sold on the site for 237 Mexican pesos, which is $13.85. Cartier quickly changed the price to 237,000 pesos, which is roughly $14,000, but Rogelio had already snagged them for the insanely low price.

But Cartier attempted to cancel his order. The man didn't budge, though, adamant about receiving what he paid for. Representatives of the luxury goods company even called and offered him Cartier Cuvée champagne and a leather item to make up for the “inconvenience," but he was going for the earrings no matter what.

Rogelio filed a dispute with the Matamoros branch of Mexico's Office of the Federal Prosecutor for the Consumer (known as PROFECO), which works to protect customers against retail-related issues. But rather than having to appear in court next week, he walked away with the earrings at the price he originally paid for them after Cartier fulfilled his order.
