Martha Stewart Dated Sir Anthony Hopkins And Broke Up With Him Over Cannibalism Concerns

Martha Stewart appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in early 2022 and gave a pretty hilarious interview. The two played a game called "Where Is the Lie, Martha?" — which is basically the same thing as "Two Truths and a Lie." But no one was expecting Martha's truths to be quite so astounding.

The biggest reveal she made was about actor Sir Anthony Hopkins. She says she dated the actor but that their relationship didn't stand a chance. The reason why she ended things with him is so strange and so hilarious. It was because she couldn't stop thinking about his character in the movie Silence of the Lambs.

Hannibal Lecter is definitely freaky. And not in a good way, according to Martha.

Ellen couldn't believe that the little anecdote wasn't the lie. But Martha confirmed that the two did briefly date. She just couldn't move past his iconic film role, and cannibalism, as it turns out, just ain't that cute.

"I have a big, scary house in Maine that's way by itself on a hundred acres in a forest and I couldn't even imagine taking Anthony Hopkins there," she told the host. "I couldn't because all I could think of was him eating, you know …" referencing his character eating people in the film.

Yes, that would be a bit of a turnoff. But he probably is not eating humans in real life. Obviously, the two didn't have the right chemistry — otherwise Martha would've probably tried harder to overlook the iconic role. Still, the fact that she couldn't get it out of her head also speaks to what a talented actor he is.

That wasn't the only stunning part of Martha's interview, though. She also revealed that she has been struck by lightning not once but three times.

"It's actually crazy. I think it's actually good for you," she told Ellen. If it doesn't kill you, I think it's good for you."

"Once it came out of my water faucet. I was leaning against my iron sink and I saw the lightning go down the pipe in my garden then back up through the water, hit me on my stomach and threw me on the floor," she recalled. "And my husband found me. I was alive, but not very comfortable."

If you thought Martha Stewart wasn't full of surprises, well, you were way off. She's seriously one of the most fascinating people. We'd love to play "Where Is the Lie, Martha?" with her any old day.
